Suspect In CT Parking Lot Murder Apprehended In Puerto Rico

A Connecticut man wanted for the alleged deadly shooting of a man in the parking lot of a convenience store was apprehended in Puerto Rico and returned to face charges.

Gelson Cruz, age 22, of Waterbury, was extradited to Waterbury by detectives assigned to the US Marshals Task Force on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Cruz was charged with the murder of Jordan Savage, age 26, of Waterbury in the parking lot of the Colonial Grocer on Colonial Avenue on Tuesday, Sept. 13, said Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police.

After the shooting, Savage was dropped off at Waterbury Hospital where he died a short time later, Bessette said.

In addition to murder, Cruz was also charged with:

  • Criminal use of a weapon
  • Illegal transfer of a pistol
  • Carrying a pistol without a permit.

Cruz is being held on a $2 million bond.
